Team C collaborative discussion Ethics in Business Communication Essay
Team C collaborative discussion Ethics in Business Communication Essay Team C collaborative discussion "Ethics in Business Communication" COM/295 September 15, 2014 Team C collaborative discussion "Ethics in Business Communication" I have to admit I was a bit worried in the beginning when I reviewed the requirement for this assignment. Conducting research in regards to a topic that is not of my choosing and to be expected to collaborate in a team discussion can sometimes be hard. Especially when your team members are not present in body to work with. All forms of communication are being handled through, email, phone or even google chat. It has been an interesting but successful experience so far and I hope thought out the next three weeks it will continue to be a positive outcome. After conducting research we all have chosen to collaborate on an article that was found by Sheira, called Wal-Mart's Latest Ethics Controversy (Gogoi, June) An employee who scrupulously followed the company's own ethics guidelines may find herself out of a job. (Gogoi, June). Lowry (new employee) with the communications department took upon herself to report another coworker whom was the vice president of the communication department for trading her stock based on insider information. The vice president Mrs. Williams had asked Lowry to copy some papers for her. The papers appeared to Lowry to be copies of stock reports in which later in the week Wal-Mart made an announcement that they are considering a buyout that is worth $15 billion. So Lowry starting thinking that maybe Williams was using this for her own benefit being she knew what the plan was due to being an insider. When Lowry was hired she had to attend a session that taught her how to look for unethical behavior and how imp ortant it is to report those issues/concerns immediately. So that is what Lowery did. In our discussion we all agreed that it was unethical what Lowry did when handling this situation. We all agreed that Lowery could have handle the situation a bit more on the ethically by addressing her concern with Williams first before jumping making accusations. Just about all of us in the team have collaborated with one another throughout the week as agreed we would do. Lindsey Ballard on the other hand had only chimed in four times and mainly those comments were just on my postings. Out of those four posting Lindsey only had one reply that was fairly lengthy, the others were about two to four sentences. I felt she could have put forth the effort a little more in responding then just I agree to a comment that was posted by her colleagues. Omar and Sheira I think out did themselves with involvement throughout the week and making sure they commented over and beyond the requirement for this assignment I do believe. By Sunday they were discussing amongst each other on ways they can r esearch to determine what ethical procedure Lowry could have taken before filing her report against Williams. I, myself felt I could have applied more in my input and quality of vocabulary when discussing the ethical behavior distorted between Lowry and her accusations she made against Williams. Also between Wal-Marts decision to dismiss Lowry after they made their determination that Williams did not violate Wal-Mart code of ethics policy. But being we had just a week to juggle other class assignments that require my attention, two jobs and a family I give myself a pat on the back that I participated as much as I did on this one assignment. It was a pleasure working with Omar, Lindsey and Sheira this week and I look forward to our team discussion in the next three weeks to follow. Reference Gogoi, P. (June 13, 2007). An Introduction To Accounting
An Introduction To Accounting AIS is a system that collects and store accounting data, after that process the data into useful information used by the decision makers (internal and external users). The information produced by AIS can help decision maker to manage their business more efficiently strategically. However, accounting information system can be manual using the traditional way of recording business transactions manually using paper-and-pen. Today the term AIS referred to as compound computer base system that merges the ability of information technology together with traditional accounting principles and practices. Accounting information systems consist of six components: People: users who work on the systems Procedures and instructions: the process of collecting, managing and storing the data Data: data which is related to the company and its business. Software: application that processes the business data Information technology infrastructure: the physical devices like personal computer and systems In ternal controls and security measures: which is employed to secure the data In the beginning, AISs were mainly developed ââ¬Å"in-houseâ⬠as legacy systems. These kinds of solutions are difficult to develop and require a high cost to maintain. In the present day, AIS are sold as prebuilt software packages from vendors. The most popular vendors for AIS are Microsoft, Sage, Group, SAP and Oracle where they customize the software to mach organizationsââ¬â¢ business processes. Modern AIS follows a multitier architecture, which separate the application processing and data management in different layer from the presentation to the user. The presentation layer manages how the information is displayed and used by functional users of the system (through client application, web browser or mobile device). All the data in the system is stored and packed by a centralized database. this includes transactional data generated from the core business processes such as inventory, purchases et c. when a transaction occur from business event the data is collected and stored into the system database where it can be processed into useful information used by decision makers. A big benefit from computerize accounting information system is that they automate and make financial reporting more efficient. Accurate and summarized, timely information is a major tool for organizations decision making and financial reporting. The accounting information system pull imports data from the system database, process and transform it and eventually produces information and reports which can be easily consumed and analyzed by the users, managers and decision makers. These systems are required to ensure that the reports are timely and relevant so that decision makers are able to quickly and efficiently base on the information provided in the reports. Consolidation is one of the greatest characteristic of reporting as user does not have to go through a massive number of transactions. For exampl e, at the end of the accounting period an accountant consolidates all payments by running a report on the system. The system application layer reclaims the data stored in the system database and produces a report with the total payments made to the vendors for that particular period. With large corporations which have huge volume of transactional data, generating a report without AIS can take day or even weeks.

Antibiotic Streptomycin Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Antibiotic Streptomycin - Essay Example Streptomycin is classified chemically as an aminoglycosidic antibiotic and some of the other aminoglycosides include kanamycin, neomycin, tobramycin and amikain. In general all aminoglycoside make use of their inhibitory action by blocking protein synthesis in bacteria. Streptomycin kills bacteria by inhibiting protein synthesis by combining irreversibly with the 30S subunit of the70S ribosomes, found typically in prokaryotes. To be more specific, it binds with the S12 protein which is involved in the initiation of protein synthesis. Researchers have found through experiments that streptomycin stops the initiation of protein synthesis by blocking the binding of initiator N-formylmethionine tRNA to the ribosome. Besides, Streptyomycin is also known to stop the normal dissociation of 70S ribosomes into their 50S and 30S subunits. Therefore formation of polysomes is inhibited. Streptomycin action involves distorting the ribosome so that transition from initiation complex (30S-mRNA-tRNA) to chain elongating ribosome is blocked. As a result of this the normal sequence of translation is disrupted and the bacteria is unable to synthesize proteins which is vital for its cell growth and thereby fails to survive. Studies also have shown that the drug also disrupts the cell membrane of susceptible bacteria. Over the years many bacterial species, such as Bacillus subtilis Strain S

Role and Functions of Law Essay Example for Free
Role and Functions of Law Essay The role of law functions in everyday business transactions and the surrounding societies. Melvin (2011) stated, ââ¬Å"Law is a body of rules of action or conduct prescribed by controlling authority and having legal binding forceâ⬠(p. 4). Role of law in a business and society are the same however can impact businesses differently. Kelly and Associates Insurance Group are compliant with many state and federal laws. Functions of Law Legal terms are often referred to as jargon or legalese. Law creates duties, obligations and rights that reflect accepted views of society. The U.S. Constitution includes the preamble, seven articles, and 27 amendments. The function of law is to establish a structure of federal government to settle disputes by establishing rules. Separating of powers to maintain the order and resolve disputes, and protecting the liberties and the rights of the people. Most of the U.S. laws are set forth by the first three articles in the U.S Constitution containing the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch. Role of Law in Business and Society The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 is an example of a recent role of law for public companies performing business. The main purpose of this act is to prevent fraudulent business activity. Internal controls established so one employee, who receives a bill and enters the invoice, should not be the same employee creating the check, signing it and mailing it out. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act passed as a law due to the scandals at Enron and WorldCom. These companies both filed bankruptcy, as they revealed that their financial reports were fraudulent. The function of law in society is to protect the liberty of the people. In chapter 2, case 2.1 Cipollone v. Liggett Group Inc. Cipollone filed suit against Liggettà violation of New Jersey consumer protections statutes. Melvin (2011) stated, ââ¬Å"Congressââ¬â¢s broadest power is derived from the Commerce Clause whereby Congress is given the power to ââ¬Å"regulate Commerce amount the several statesâ⬠(p. 33). ââ¬Å"Article VI of the U.S. Constitution provides that the laws of United States shall be the supreme Law of Land. Thus [â⬠¦] it has been settled that state law that conflicts with federal law is ââ¬Ëwithout effect.ââ¬â¢ [â⬠¦]â⬠(Melvin, 2011). In this case, the state law was preempted as it conflicted with the federal law, therefore, dismissed. Cipolloneââ¬â¢s mother had used Liggettââ¬â¢s products and passed away. Liggett was protected under federal statutes with the general surgeonââ¬â¢s warnings on their product. Kelly and Associates Insurance Group Functions in Law Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) regulates health-care providers, plans, and program administrators in gathering, storing, and disclosing medical information about individuals this is a well-known privacy protection act passed by Congress. Kelly and Associates Insurance Group is a third party administrator to many health insurance companies like CareFirst (BlueCross BlueSheild), Untied Healthcare, and Aetna. We are required by HIPPA laws to safeguard materials that have protected health information (PHI) readily available. PHI is a personââ¬â¢s name, geographic information, date elements, phone numbers, social security numbers, license numbers, or any medical information. Kelly and Associates Insurance Group are compliant with the HIPPA laws by having internal auditors. Random audits take place during the day and after working hours. The audits are a group of people who inspect any papers left out, check accessibility of PHI. In the event, information has been breached an affidavit is completed and report it to our compliance team for their completion of the violation. Each case is reviewed and depending on the severity of the violation Kelly and Associates Insurance Group, could be penalized or sued. Kelly and Associates Insurance Group have a service bureau payroll division that is working on reporting Affordable Care Act (ACA) hours. And generating reports to ensure their clients are compliant with the ACA requirements. Same-sex domestic partnership has been another law passed by federal and only some states recognize same-sex domestic partnership. The partnerââ¬â¢s cost of insurance is considered taxableà and should be included as imputed income to the states that do not recognize same-sex marriages. Tax compliance laws occur in the payroll division as each state and federal regulations vary from their deposits and filing per client. The filing frequency is determined by the amount of reported wages through payroll; however it is always determined by the taxing authority. This information must be provided to the payroll division by the client due to the liability the payroll department could face as each taxing agency charges penalties and interest for late filing or incorrect filing frequencies. Conclusion Law is practiced many times a day by businesses and society. Without laws, the world would have no guidelines to follow. There would be no right, or wrongdoing, and there would be no justice for the people of United States. We are the people, the land of the free; with laws as guidelines to make U.S. a safer place. Laws are being established to better the business transactions and improve societyââ¬â¢s quality of life. References: Melvin, S. P. (2011). The Legal Environment of Business. How the Pentagram constellation came to be. Many believed, (and still do) that "monsters" were real, that the fictional creatures that "go bump at night" actually do go bump at night. So, a few people formed a society of men and women called "Hunters". From generation to generation, men rose to the responsibility of protecting the life of others, by hunting them. The two story of two of these remarkable group of people will forever live in the minds of men, we are forever indebted to them. After the era and death of Sam and Dean Winchester, a strange yet remarkable constellation appeared in the sky. Astronomers and many people believe that stars are formed by clouds of gas that begin condense due to gravity and evolve into stars. But others believe that when an angel dies, his soul ascends to heaven but his grace (angel mojo) is propelled into the sky forming a star, the more loyal and powerful the angel, the brighter the star. These people had tons of theories about said constellation but the most popular and understood presumption is as follows: Sam and Dean Winchester were hunte...

Analyses of Love in a Fallen City and the Golden Cangue
For the bulk of the mid- to late-20th Century, Eileen Changââ¬â¢s name and literary prowess fell into obscurity as a result of events related to the Cultural Revolution and her own reclusion. In C. T. Hsiaââ¬â¢s A History of Modern Chinese Fiction, he praised Chang for her use of ââ¬Å"rich imageryâ⬠and ââ¬Å"profound exploration of human nature. â⬠In his book, he also claimed Chang to be ââ¬Å"the best and most important writerâ⬠of mid-twentieth century China. Hsiaââ¬â¢s remarks and Ang Leeââ¬â¢s film adaptation of her novella, Lust, Caution, have helped to bring Changââ¬â¢s name back onto the literary scene. Two of her most well-known and highly praised novellas are Love in a Fallen City and The Golden Cangue. On the surface, the stories describe the details of family activities, love relationships, and marriages that occupy mundane life in places like Shanghai and Hong Kong, but beneath the simple plot lines, the stories personify the struggles of strong-willed women within the family arena during a tumultuous time of change in China. Love in a Fallen City is a love story between a divorcee, Bai Liusu, and a playboy businessman, Fan Liuyuan. As a divorcee, Liusu is forced to return to her fatherââ¬â¢s home where she is an unwelcome fixture and an added economic burden. In a turn of events, the man, Fan Liuyuan, who was supposed to be her nieceââ¬â¢s suitor, chooses her over the niece, exacerbating her situation at home. With nothing to lose, she follows Fan to Hong Kong where their love blossoms amidst the beginnings of the Japanese occupation of the city. The Golden Cangue follows the story of Cao Qiqiao, a widow who lives in anguish as a powerless daughter-in-law in a wealthy family. She was forced into an arranged marriage with a sickly man and treated poorly by her husbandââ¬â¢s family. After the death of her husband, she gains independence and a small amount of wealth, but after years of torment, she turns her own repressed anger towards her children. The two stories share similar sentiments in that they depict the different struggles of women in the family setting. For Liusu, her struggle was to gain the acceptance of her family and love and affection from Liuyuan. In Qiqiaoââ¬â¢s case, her struggle was her search for an escape from her oppressive family life. Eileen Changââ¬â¢s use dialogue shows the strength of the women and her descriptions within the stories help to depict the inner turmoil each woman faces. The story of Love in Fallen City starts in the household of the Bai family. News concerning the death of Bai Liusuââ¬â¢s ex-husband arrives from a family acquaintance. The news stirs up the issue of whether or not Liusu should return to her late ex-husbandââ¬â¢s home for mourning, as dictated by traditional family values. The possibility that her family would send her back to her in-laws infuriates her but she still remains composed. While she is in the weaker position in terms of family hierarchy, she holds the power in dialogue because of her sharp tongue: Liusu had now reached the height of fury, but she simply laughed. ââ¬Å"Yes, yes, everything is my fault. Youââ¬â¢re poor? Itââ¬â¢s because Iââ¬â¢ve eaten you out of house and home. Youââ¬â¢ve lost your capital? It must be that Iââ¬â¢ve led you on. Your sons die? Iââ¬â¢ve done it to you, Iââ¬â¢ve ruined your fate. (Chang, 114) While obviously upset, she remains composed. Rather than allow her emotions to show physically, she translates those emotions into words. Liusuââ¬â¢s sharp retorts are common throughout the book and they show the strength of her character. She does not allow herself to become the victim and she responds with dagger-like words that show her anger and disappointment. The position Liusu finds herself in is a result of her familyââ¬â¢s lack of concern for her general wellbeing and happiness. As one of the younger female members of the family, she holds no power. Everything in her life happened because her family dictated her fate. She never had a choice in which direction she should take her life and she has become embittered because of her lack of independence. When she meets Fan Liuyuan, she takes her chances and follows him to Hong Kong. Her decision to leave Shanghai has two implications. Firstly, she wants an escape from her family. After years of following their rules and hearing their complaints about her presence, she finally has a chance to leave it all behind to find her own independence. Secondly, she is strangely attracted to Liuyuan and securing his love and attention is a conquest for her. After leaving Shanghai, Liusu stays in a hotel in Hong Kong and spends more and more time with Liuyuan. The two of them develop a relationship but their intentions are different. For Liusu, getting close to Liuyuan was a way for her to leave the Bai family. Liuyuan, on the other hand is seeking spiritual love. He professes his love for her on many occasions, but she rejects him each time. Her goal in being in a relationship with Liuyuan is to have security and Liuyuanââ¬â¢s words hold no meaning to her, but instead are examples of his playboy behavior: Liusu was silent for a while, but finally she burst out: ââ¬Å"Why not go ahead and just say, flat out, that you donââ¬â¢t want to marry me, and leave it at that! Why beat around the bush, with all this talk of not being able to decide things? Even a conservative person like me can say, ââ¬ËFirst marriage for the family, second marriage for oneself. ââ¬â¢ If someone as free and unburdened as you are canââ¬â¢t decide for himself, then who can decide for you? â⬠(Chang, 149) In her scolding of Liuyuan, Liusu states her views of marriage which are defined by her real life experiences. Her first marriage was an arranged marriage that was to the benefit of her family, but for her second marriage she wants it to be for herself. She is seeking stability in her life and she does not think Liuyuan is apt to fill that void. As much as she is attracted to him, she cannot see past his playboy charm. Her defenses and words show how she is strong-willed and determined to make right what went wrong in her life. Throughout the novel, Fan Liuyuan expresses his love to Liusu. He claims she is a ââ¬Å"real Chinese womanâ⬠and continues on to say, ââ¬Å"Real Chinese women are the worldââ¬â¢s most beautiful women. Theyââ¬â¢re never out of fashion. â⬠(Chang, 135) Liuyuan loves Liusu and thinks of her as the ideal Chinese woman, yet he worries that she is part of the trap of Chinese culture that wants him only for a convenient marriage. Therefore, he tries to take her away from China to Hong Kong the colony; he even considers taking her to Malaysia and Africa, to primitive lands. By attempting to remove her from her native home, he is essentially taking away her power over him. He wants to force her into the spiritual love that he wants, undermining her position as a strong woman. In the end, the marriage does go through, but only because the war forced the two of them together. The two people both have selfish tendencies and neither could have been together in any other situation: Hong Kongââ¬â¢s efeat had brought Liusu victory. But in this unreasonable world, who can distinguish cause from effect? Who knows which is which? Did a great city fall so that she could be vindicated? Countless thousands of people dead, countless thousands of people suffering, after that an earthshaking revolutionâ⬠¦ Liusu didnââ¬â¢t feel there was anything subtle about her place in history. She stood up, smiling, and kicked the pan of mosquito-repellent incense under the table. Those legendary beauties who felled cities and kingdoms were probably all like that. (Chang, 167) Because of all that she had to go through, she likens herself to other strong women in history who brought down cities and kingdoms. She secured her place in the world by overcoming all the obstacles that were presented to her. She managed to leave her oppressive family and find a second husband who will accept her as she is. Achieving her goals at the end validates her as a strong Chinese woman. The Golden Cangue presents a different story about a woman and her struggles with her family. Similar to Liusu, Cao Qiqiao is stuck in an unhappy family situation. As a daughter from a poor family, she was married off to the son of a wealthy family. In her husbandââ¬â¢s family, she suffers from ridicule and repression. As time progresses, she slowly loses her mind because of all that she has had to endure within the family. When she finally gains some independence, she completely loses all sanity and takes out her pent up anger on her daughter and daughter-in-law. Qiqiao, in many respects, is a strong woman. She had to put up with constant ridicule from her husbandââ¬â¢s family and she had no independence. Her resilience is characterized in her attitude and actions towards her family. As a daughter-in-law, she suffered at the hands of her husbandââ¬â¢s family, once she becomes a mother-in-law she perpetuates this cycle of torment and directs her bitterness towards her own children and daughter-in-law. In one instance, she believes her daughterââ¬â¢s feet need to be bound in order to attract suitors: As she looked at them [her feet], something occurred to her and she said with a cynical laugh, ââ¬Å"You may say yes but how do I know if youââ¬â¢re sensible or silly at heart? Youââ¬â¢re this big already, and with a pair of big feet, where canââ¬â¢t you go? Even if I could control you, I wouldnââ¬â¢t have the energy to watch you all day long. Actually at thirteen itââ¬â¢s already too late for foot binding, it is my fault not to have seen to it earlier. Weââ¬â¢ll start right now, thereââ¬â¢s still time. â⬠(Chang, 208) Qiqiao has reached a point where she lacks reasoning. All of her thoughts are convoluted and in her mind she has convinced herself that torturing her own children will be for their benefit. She is lost in her own misery because of the restraints placed on her by her husbandââ¬â¢s family. She understands that her daughter has much more freedom than she did when she was younger. The actual decision to bind her daughterââ¬â¢s feet seemingly comes as a result of jealousy. Since she had to suffer, so should her children. What makes Qiqiao a strong woman is her lucid insanity. She calculates and plots every action to her own benefits and pleasure. She understands that money and power run the world, and she does what she can within her means to feel superior over others. So the golden cangue is a symbol of power and money. She wears the golden cangue as a burden on her conscience and she used it to get whatever she needed: For thirty years now she had worn a golden cangue. She had used its heavy edges to chop down several people; those that did not die were half killed. She knew that her son and daughter hated her to the death, that the relatives on her husbandââ¬â¢s side hated her, and that her own kinsfolk also hated her. (Chang 243) The golden cangue tainted her moral being and she had become a much hated person. She was driven by power and money but in the end, her actions and effort were all for naught. She loses power over her children and she is left to die in her misery. Both characters, Liusu and Qiqiao, were products of their respective environments. The difference in the two women comes in how they take hold of their future. For Liusu, she knew she wanted an escape from her family and she took the reins of her life and got what she want with Liuyuan. Qiqiao on the other hand, attempted to get control of her life, but instead she got caught in the madness of being an opium addict. One woman was able to break free from the social constraints placed on her while the other was not. Qiqiao perpetuates the vicious cycle of family tradition that damaged her in the first place. So while she is strong in the sense that she is calculating and conniving, she fails to break the cycle that caused her misery and she is no better than other petty men. The two stories both capture the essence of Eileen Changââ¬â¢s works. Through her writing, she was able give voice to the thoughts of women. She shows a great range in her depiction of women, from the weak to strong, cruel matriarchs. The works give insight into the condition of women during the early 20th century but on a larger scale they also reveal the way in which women are affected by their family life.

Integrated Logistics for DEP/GARD Case Study Essay
Tom Lippet, sales representative for DEP, feels the challenge when the successor of Mike Oââ¬â¢Leary, Richard Binish, becomes the new purchasing agent at GARD who plans to trim the product line in the next three years. His plan to narrow the service window for suppliers from the original 5 days to 3 days in the next three years to the eventually 1 day window forces Tom to consider ways that can increase the performance and service of their company to win the contracts in the future. Solutions for DEP 1) Diagram on the Left shows the DEP/GARD supply chain. Value adding stages are: ââ¬â The inbound transportation from compound suppliers ââ¬â The manufacturing and packaging process ââ¬â The outbound transportation to GARD Non-value adding stages are: ââ¬â The compound inventory sitting in DEP (7-day supply) ââ¬â The order transmission time wasted by receiving and handling orders manually ââ¬â The finished product staying in the warehouse The minimum performance cycle for the supply chain is 9 days, whereas the maximum performance cycle is 20 days. 2) The performance cycle can be improved through the use of the 25 percent and 15 percent suppliers. But because DEP used a bidding system that emphasized on price, by giving out more proportions of the raw materials to the 25% and 15% suppliers, the average variable cost per unit will be higher for each compound. However, choosing 25% and 15% suppliers who has a relatively higher fill rate can increase the reliability of inventory availability and reduce the possibility of shortages. Which in turn means that DEP can lower the 7-day supply of each compound to a 6-day or even 5-day supply depending on the reliability of the supplier. By doing so, the inventory carrying cost will decrease and in the end if not saving more for the company, at least balances the extra costs used by purchasing from 15% and 25% suppliers. A Performance Statistics of Compound Suppliers copied from the Integrated Logistics for DEP/GARD Case Study is shown in the next page. For instance, we can see that the f ill rate for company 1 is relatively low comparing to other suppliers. And in the case of compound E and F, we have to reason to procure these two compounds from company 1 since it not only has the lowest fill rate but also costs the most. All or portion of the compound A and B can be purchased from company 2 or 3 depending on their capacity and performance consistency. 3) Things to do if I were Tom Lippet: Change the bidding system in a way that DEP is able to purchase more compounds from suppliers with a higher fill rate and lower performance cycle uncertainty, in order to reduce the days of inventory storage. (Peopleà challenge: Employeeââ¬â¢s reluctance and unwillingness to change in the manufacturing department.) Communicate with compound suppliers before the next bid and inform them the changes that are going on. Tell them the importance to reduce their performance cycle uncertainty and increase their fill rate. And that these two criteria are also going to be considered as well on the next bid. (Challenge: a) Disturbed relationship between buyer and supplier. b) Ethics issues. ) To facilitate the order transmission process in order to reduce the performance cycle, a more reliable internet-based information technology should be used, such as EDI and ERP systems. However, the installation and implementation of an ERP system can be costly and time consuming. The order transport ation performance cycle uncertainty is too high (3-6 days). Automated inventory management is highly recommended to ensure exact day delivery, and cost savings will incur from less labor force required in the warehouses. (People challenge: Possible resentment and intentional sabotage or strikes from warehouse personnel. To mitigate the process, appropriate procedures should be taken to help the workers to find alternative jobs. ) 4) Itââ¬â¢s important to let Richard Binish to realize how the company is consistently improving according to his expectations. Maintaining a competitive price and quality while enhancing and exceeding their competitors in terms of performance cycle and service would be order-winning criteria for DEP. The implementation of the EDI system will provide real time information between the companies and solidify collaboration. Of course, the criteria will be continuously changing when supply chain management becomes more sophisticated and evolved over time. There will eventually be a day when the fill rates required become 100% and the service window will not be exact day delivery but exact time delivery for DEP. With the industryââ¬â¢s average standard constantly increasing, continuous improvement on supply chain management is necessary in order to survive in todayââ¬â¢s competitive environment.

Benjamin Franklin Essays
Benjamin Franklin Essays Benjamin Franklin Essay Benjamin Franklin Essay Essay Topic: The adventures Of Tom Sawyer Throughout the course of history, the citizens of this amazing planet have always been undertaking the struggle for grasping the American Dream. Although the goals of an individual might be different than anothers, the final goal is similar for is to obtain happiness. Famous literature such as F. Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby, celebrated work such as Of Mice and Men done by John Steinbeck, and Mark Twains popular The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn all portray the happiness all the characters try to gain through their dream, the unfairness that life may award, and that the necessity to be thankful is greatly needed. In his most famous work The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald draws attention to the dream of title-based character, Jay Gatsby. This man was a millionaire, living extremely well-off. When young, Gatsby was unfortunately poor and it was hard for him to rise up in the high clique of the wealthy. Because of this, his dream girl Daisy could not marry him and his love was lost. Hoping to strive to become happy and rich, Gatsby, when later found out in the book, began to smuggle alcohol and through it became extremely wealthy. But for some reason, his happiness was never achieved and his low-spirited mood matched the permanent en of Winnie the Poochs Error. Fitzgerald, himself being a pursuer of happiness, displayed Gatsby as a man who dreamed about a life of happiness. He had come long way to this blue lawn, and his dream must have seemed so close that he had hardly talked to grasp it (Fitzgerald 180). True, this man did host a vast abundance of parties, but indeed these transcendent gatherings were manganese to bolster his hiding happiness. With this, it suggests that the only reason Gatsby threw such lavish parties was because he thought she would enjoy them. Throughout his entire life, Gatsby attempted to reach that dream. And much to his disappointment, his dream of finally obtaining her never got accomplished. Indeed Myrtle Wilson, the suicidal woman with the horrific death was somewhat alike with Gatsby. Being married to a George Wilson, she believed her social status was much higher than those of a mechanic. Like Gatsby, Myrtle isnt happy with the class she was born to. She insists that she married someone beneath her, and she tries to talk about the lower orders as though shes not one of them: l told that boy about the ice! Myrtle raised her eyebrows in despair at the shiftlessness of the lower orders. These people! You have to keep after them all the time (Fitzgerald 32). Realizing this, she began to engage in a relationship with a man who supposedly was of a higher stature than her present husband. True to her belief, Fitzgerald indicates that Tom Wilson was actually a man of great wealth His family were enormously wealthy even in college his freedom with money was a matter for reproach hed brought down a string of polo ponies enough to do that (Fitzgerald 6). And with confidence, Myrtle deliberately leaves her man, and tries to obtain more happiness. Much like Gatsby, Tom Buchanan, Daisys Cubans, also was a man that lacked his desired felicity. This man was a perplexed character; he did not know what he wanted. At first, he falls in love with Daisy, Gatsby long lost love. He treats her well, but times run through, and mistreat becomes common. This mystery man was hypocritical toward Daisy wanting to be with Gatsby, for he himself cheated on his wife with Myrtle Wilson, the spouse of Gatsby assassin. Cutting across the Valley of the Ashes, Nick and Tom stop by the Willows Garage. Were getting off, he insisted. l want you to meet my girl (Fitzgerald 24). In this book, he is portrayed as a man with an aggressive attitude, a man with boundaries and restrictions for his lovely wife Daisy a man with uncomfortably and a wish to be happy. But as soon as he got acquainted with Myrtle, his dream became really wide and his desires became stretched. Jordan Baker, Nicks inconstant date, also was a woman that suffered a sort of melancholy. She was a golfer, an athletic Sock who had a critical desire to succeed and become the best through cheating. Her problem was her game. And she felt like she could never achieve happiness if she failed, so by cheating it felt good to win. Nick described her not only cheating in sports, but a cheat at life. Jordan Baker instinctively avoided clever, shrewd men, and now I saw that this was because she felt safer on a plane where any divergence from a code would be thought impossible. She was incurably dishonest. She wasnt able to endure being at a disadvantage and, given this unwillingness, I suppose she had begun dealing in subterfuges when she was very young in order to keep that cool, insolent smile turned to the world and yet satisfy the demands of her hard, Jaunty body (Fitzgerald 59). Throughout the book, she tries to win cheating her way through games, through life hoping to achieve a Tate of happiness. Ironically, dishonesty doesnt help, and instead leads happiness away. Much like The Great Gatsby, in Just 107 pages, John Steinbeck writes about the adventures of poor laboring men that worked on the Californian ranches. In his novella, Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck writes about George Milton and Leonie Smalls, two men struggling to acquire work to achieve their dream: to one day own land with a home they can call their own. George and Leonie never attain their dream, but the fantasy holds their remarkable friendship together. Their dream is real because its existent in their imagination. The dream keeps Leonie cheerful and stops George from becoming unkind and lonely like other ranch hands. What makes this dream significant is Liens determination to achieve it. Got it by heart. You can do it yourself. No, you. I forget some a the things. Tell about how its goanna be. (Steinbeck 14). Even though Leonie asks George maybe a couple times throughout the book to remind him of their dream farm, Leonie seems to know word for word, on how their dream goes, and is always finding happiness in talking and renewing his hope in his child-like fantasy. Unlike Leonie, all Currys wife longs for is o experience the world for herself. She is practically a captive in her own home, barren of the power to transform her fate. When she was young, she fantasized of becoming a famous actress in a show, but when she married Curly, her entire life renewed to the inferior. After her marriage, the shattered ruins of her dreams and a happy, and not stuck with a man who showed her no attention. Mom! She put her hands behind her hack and leaned against the door frame so that her body was thrown forward. Youre the new fells that Just come, anti yard (Steinbeck 30). In this scene, Curly wife portrays herself as a sex symbol. And being the only female live character, she publicized herself often in front of the men, trying to at least get a few nice words, or comments that gave a distinctly positive boost to her attention level. Thats why looking at Leonie, dumb as he was, she felt like she could obtain some affection from him, some sort of happiness for being loved. But to her dissatisfaction, he gave no pleasure, no happiness but a surprisingly random and permanent end. Most of the characters in Of Mice and Men admit, at one point or another, to dreaming of a different life. Crooks, allows himself the pleasant fantasy of weeding a attach of garden on Liens farm one day, and Candy fastens on desperately to Georges vision of owning a couple of acres. What makes all of these dreams typically American is that the dreamers wish for untarnished happiness, for the freedom to follow their own desires and no matter how realistically possible it is to achieve it. Twains Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, often regarded as one of the finest American novels, and labels the hilarious yet illuminating adventures of a deprived country boy, who runs away and takes the river with an escaped African American slave. Huckleberry Finn, a smart boy that was ruthlessly mistreated by his alcoholic-driven dad, was basically an orphan that longed for a better treatment and a free choice. His dad is almost never there for him, so of course Miss Watson being the responsible one, attempts to teach him responsibility and schooling, Just like his friend Tom Sawyer. But nobody taught Yuck Finn the social values and the right choices Just like Jim did. Through his indirect teaching and intelligence, Jim teaches Yuck against the stereotypical Southern segregation, and shows that an African American can show more affection than a close father. Yuck Finns dream is a unique one. In an effort to escape in his caged life and find a hope in something new, he escapes his present life and quests to discover an innovative one. For Yuck, the American Dream meaner being free, to have no limits or boundaries, and to relish the wide-open Western frontier. And the Mississippi River offers the best definition and relaxation from both of their previous lives. Jim, this is nice, I says, l dont to be nowhere else but here (Twain 54). The splendor and freedom of this dream is shown almost as a requirement for Yuck, and certainly for Jim the slave. Jim, who is not even considered a person, but Just a piece of property, also had a dream very much similar with Yuck Finns. Much like the aspiration of other slaves at the time; he wished to be freed, to break free of captivity and again be reunited with his fame-bam. Slave work, is hard work. And it takes a great amount of physical pain and labor to maintain loyal and hard-working towards an owner. Novella, you see, it Uzi disc way. Ole missus datas Miss Watson she pecks on me all De time, en treats me potty rough, but she awls said she would sell me down to Orleans (Twain 50). After intercepting the knowledge of Miss Watson desire to sell Jim, Jim began to get uneasy (Twain 50), and knew that the only way for him to receive liberty, would be to leave as soon as possible. To add to his agonizing hurt, had been disconnected from his wife and children. It was his dream to be reunited, and to hold his family in his arms again. Jim missed them relationship status as a bachelor, that encouraged his criminal act of running away from Miss Watson, and sailing away with a white teenager. Unfortunately, when trying to accomplish the demand for contentment, realizing that life can be unfair can be a common thought. The phrase Life is unfair is quite popular amongst teens, but when examining it, it is the genuine truth. When being in the army, Gatsby was portrayed as a man lacking a strong financial status. . That it must be the man she used to know. It wasnt until then, that I connected Gatsby with the officer in her white car (Fitzgerald 77). Gatsby was indeed absent in wealth at first and this weakness most likely lead him to believe that life was unjust. For without money, he could not obtain his love. The story is much the same with Fitzgerald himself, for he himself lost his love Just because of his low financial status. It mustve been terrible to participate in such a sad act, in the oxymoron gaining a loss of letting go of the girls of his dreams. Likewise, Daisy was a woman with a resembling story. She loved Gatsby and Tom. But possessing both men was out of the question. It was unfair, for her love to both of these men was equal. Gatsby? demented Daisy. What Gatsby? (Fitzgerald 11). When hearing the name of the famous millionaire, she became how my English teacher Mr.. Borrowers calls it, tingly inside. Excitement is definitely a small part of the definition of this word. And with this thrill Fitzgerald artists that Daisys time with Gatsby was a time of Joy and a definite fun. As he left the room again she got up and went over to Gatsby and pulled his face down, kissing him on the mouth. You know I love you, she murmured. Yes, Daisy felt great affection to this rich man, but still through it all, her love for Tom did not diminish. She was stuck. Both men proved to be of equal likeness to her, and when asked it was hard for her to take away her truth of never loving Tom. She hesitated. Her eyes fell on Jordan and me with a sort of appeal, as though she realized at least what she as doing - Even alone I cant say I never loved Tom, she admitted in a pitiful voice. It wouldnt be true (Fitzgerald 133). Although Daisy had a choice on two men, Leonie, in Of Mice and Men had no choice in his physical disability. Leonie, as one would say in this current time period, slow in the mind. Mere we going, George? The little man Jerked down the brim of his hat and scowled over at Leonie. So you forgot that ready, did you? I goat tell you again, do l? Jesus Christ (Steinbeck 5). Even though Liens disability is accustomed with George, it still proves to be slightly of annoyance to George; his unusual actions and constant memory loss, puts a great stress on his ability to maintain kindness. Yes, it isnt Liens fault. No, he did not get kicked in the head by a horse when he was a kid (Steinbeck 22). His weakness was not chosen, and even if it did get to the better of George, George held his own thoughts back and felt pity and sympathy for Leonie when Curly was a high-nosed prick in the small cabin room on the farm. Say, what the hells he got on his shoulder? Leonie didnt do anything to him (Steinbeck 26). Identical with the mistreat, Jim was unfairly treated Just because of his skin color. True, segregation was a definite part in the United States culture back then, and many folks thought it was perfectly normal to treat blacks like garbage. But even back then without realizing it, it was considered one of the top, unfair, extremely unreasonable and injustice actions that was taken place in the Home of the Free country. Because Mary Jane II will get an order to box these duds up and put me away; and do you reckon a Niger can run across money and not borrow some of it? (Twain 180). Here, the Archduke is proclaiming that all black men stealwhich, hypocritically, is exactly what the Archduke does himself. This is only a small portion of racism in the book, but there are lots more examples of such misconduct. Undoubtedly, when chasing dreams, the dawning of life and its inequitable acts are sure to be exposed. Sometimes though, the thoughts of our illegitimate essence can be foreseen as almost an act of sin. When truly analyzing and evaluating the pros and cons of the time of the birthrate, to the present second, many people may overlook the fact that they are blessed with more than whats deserved. Whenever you feel like criticizing any one, he told me, Just remember that all the people in this world havent had the advantages that youve had (Fitzgerald 1). Being Just the second sentence in the beginning of the novel, Nick Caraways father demonstrates one of the most important aspects of life and the benefits of being who you are. Following his fathers words, yes it does seem that Nick was indeed happy for what he had. Alas, other major characters in the novel never did seem happy for their current wealth and assets. When Gatsby was introduced to the knowledge that Daisy lived by the dock, he seemed to ignore his current benedictions. This man was insanely wealthy! He had everything; a hover plane to enjoy on the lake, beautiful cars to ride around town, a giant mansion Just for himself he threw parties every night! Despite having all of these delightedness, he strove for more, seeming like he was never thankful for what he already possessed. By saying, Do you come to these parties often? (Fitzgerald 43) Jordan implies that Gatsby must have parties often, and yet he does not find much Joy in them. Each party, a great multitude of people came people he didnt even know, and without question, obtaining a girl would have been easier than taking a breath of fresh air. T disgustingly he strove for a married woman. Yes, she was his past, but it takes maturity to understand that sometimes whats wanted is not necessarily yours. At the same time, Tom was Just like Gatsby; not necessarily as rich, but wealthy enough to buy his wife $350,000 pearls. And yet, he went after Myrtle, being greatly unappreciative of his current possessions. Tom was indeed a hypocrite. He loved Myrtle, and when he found out that Gatsby and Daisy had a relationship building up, suddenly he turned a defensive mode on toward his wife. She is not leaving me! Toms words suddenly leaned down over Gatsby. Certainly not for a common swindler whod have to steal the ring he put on her finger (Fitzgerald 133). Myrtle too, was a woman lacking her felicity for the blessings she received thereof. As a wife of a mechanic, she never showed any gratitude for the work Wilson did. The only crazy part I was was when I married him. I knew right away I made a mistake. He borrowed somebody elses suit to get married in, and never even told me about it And then I lay down and cried to beat the band all afternoon (Fitzgerald 35). Her reaction to Wilson renting a tuxedo is pathetic. To cry over something like that, brings he common, rude but true phrase to thought Go kill yourselves And ironically. That is exactly what she did. A moment later she rushed out in to the duck, waving her hands and shouting before he could move from his door the business was over (Fitzgerald 137). This foolish act of suicide, Just explicates that many people do Leonie displays a sort of ingratitude with his desperate longing for ketchup. George always helps Leonie, but he always wants more. It is manifest in Chapter One. After finding a place to rest for the night, George offers Leonie some bearers for supper, and Liens response is reply is quite unappreciative, as he announces l like me with ketchup. George explains to him that there is no ketchup and Leonie again repeats l like me with Ketchup! After this George loses his calm, and Leonie threatens by saying, [Im goanna] go off and live in one of them caves (Steinbeck 12). Although Leonie is slow, he comprehends that his untruthfulness isnt appreciated around George, and immediately indirectly apologizes asking thereafter about the dream farm they will someday own. Curly, the boss son, displays a sort of dissatisfaction tit his size, state and power. His explosive anger engages when Leonie smiles at the delight of the memory of the ranch, comes up to him and says, Meat the hell you laughing at? Come on, way big bastard. Get up on your feet. No big son-of-a-pitch is goanna laugh at me. Ill show you whos yells (Steinbeck 62). Curlers violent response to Liens blameless laughter shows not only Curlers frustration with his absolute lack of control, but his determination in being the most powerful, even if his physical stature is smaller than of somebody else. In the beginning of Adventures of Huckleberry Fin, Yuck shows his lack of appreciation in Miss Wilson trying to make him literate. Back then, obtaining an education after elementary school was not often, and getting knowledge and not captivating it, showed Husks terrible ingratitude for an opportunity to learn a few more things and become more intelligent. She worked me meddling hard for about an hour, and then the widow made her ease up. I couldnt stood it much longer. Then for an hour it was deadly dull, and I was fidgety (Twain 10). It Just disgusts to see Yuck not taking the chance for a higher education when other adults or children acquired none at all. Throughout the novel, Yuck and Tom pronounce their beliefs on the ungratefulness towards Jim running away. In the beginning, Yuck believes that Jim was too stuck up, and a high- demanding slave for him to run away from Miss Watson. She gave him everything, and Yuck felt like running away from her would be foolish. And later on in the novel, Tom says l wonder if Uncle Sills is going to hang this Niger. If I was to catch a Niger that was ungrateful enough to run away, I wouldnt give him up, Id hang him. Tom and Yuck were not born hating the African American race, but they learned from t. They believe that running away from your owner would be unwise, for an owner gives all thats necessary to live and thrive. Ironically, Yuck himself was running away, so it made people like him a hypocrite. Therefore, when chasing dreams one can notice that many people are untruthful for what they already possess. Throughout the history of the United States, many fellow Americans have attempted to succeed in obtaining the American Dream. Many have tried, few have achieved it. Although obtaining the dream can be a definite struggle, dreaming can major help in overcoming obstacles. The American authors of that time portrayed the American Dream as a fantasy, all a happiness thats tried to be made. In the American Dream, Fitzgerald, Steinbeck, and Twain portrait that it has many flaws and commonalities, happiness is always tried to be acquired, and many of the current blessings are sadly ignored. Truthfully yes, life can be unfair, unjust. But by counting the current can a dream be reached, and a never ending felicity be finally obtained. As a whole, Benjamin Franklin was right; Pursuing happiness all can do. But truly catching it is the difficult part.
